Wood-Fired Cup
黒白磁窯変盃 Wood-Fired Cup
Included wooden box and wrapped in natural-dyed fabric.
Diameter: ⌀7.5cmHeight: 5.8cm
This piece features my signature porcelain marbling pattern, beautifully fired in a wood-fired kiln (Anagama) during my artist residency in Shigaraki this year. The interior is coated with a transparent glaze, while the shine and warm orange hues on the exterior are a result of the wood’s influence during the firing process.

Amanda's Musings
'After my first experience firing my works with wood at my artist residency in Shigaraki, I began to understand the fascination that draws ceramists to this method.
Unlike electric firing, here we witness clay being transformed by real flames. The process involves collecting and chopping waste wood, feeding the fire for over 24 hours continuously to reach temperatures of 1300°C — it really is a labour of love.'
